Your smartphone is a workhorse. It's there for you day in and day out, helping you stay connected to the people and things you love. But even the most reliable workhorses can develop issues over time.

Here are two of the most common problems your smartphone might develop as time passes.

Poor Battery Life

If you find that your battery drains quickly or doesn't hold a charge as well as it used to, that's a sure sign that your battery is on its last legs. Smartphone batteries are designed to retain up to 80% of their original capacity after 500 charges, but you can do a few things to see if yours is going bad.

First, take a look at your settings. Go to "Settings" and then "Battery." Here, you can see which apps are using the most battery power. If you see a power-hungry app that you don't use very often near the top of the list, delete it and see if that helps.

You can also enable "Low Power Mode" in your settings. This mode will help your battery last longer by diminishing some of the phone's features and performance. It can either dim your screen or turn it off entirely after a few seconds of no screen activity.

If neither of these things works, it's time to replace your battery. Contact a phone repair technician to see about getting a new battery installed.

The Camera Won't Work

One of the most frustrating things that can happen to your smartphone is when the camera stops working. This can happen when there's an issue with the software or a problem with the hardware.

For example, a recent firmware update might have caused a conflict with the camera app, causing it to crash. While this problem is usually fixed with a software update, you can try restarting your phone or updating the camera app to see if that helps.

If your camera still isn't working, it could be a hardware issue. Dust or dirt might have gotten into the lens and is obstructing the view. Your repair expert could try cleaning the lens with a soft, dry cloth. This is quite a delicate process, so it's best to leave it to the professionals.

If cleaning the lens doesn't work, there might be an issue with the image sensor. This is a more serious problem that can occur if you drop your phone or if it's exposed to too much moisture. In this case, you'll need to take your phone to a repair shop—such as an iPhone repair service—to have the sensor replaced.
